Although there are many influencers of childhood obesity – such as fast food, video games, and lack of physical education in schools – parents are ultimately responsible for their children becoming overweight or obese.

Parents Step Up is about parental responsibility not being lost in the discussion about childhood obesity. We think kids are important enough to start a national dialogue about parental accountability, even if it makes some uncomfortable. As part of this national dialogue, we also want to address those who are making it very difficult for parents, such as the fast food, soft drink and junk food companies bombarding their kids with advertising, as well as school districts that offer mostly unhealthy meals and provide few opportunities for exercise. To further national dialogue, a blog sponsored by one of the campaign creators will begin March, 2007.

Parents Step Up is a national resource that is updated regularly with recent news articles, studies and statistics relevant to parental responsibility and accountability for childhood obesity. Please visit often to stay up-to-date.
